Anatomy Murder - Does it really mean anything?

It’s a well-known fact that prostitution is one of the oldest profession known and may be the second one and comparitively wierd one is Grave Robbing. It was during the end of the 18th century, when dead bodies became precious commodities, and anatomical studies became essential in many European Medical Schools which gave birth to Anatomy Murder.

Its one of a kind murder, to use a part or the entire cadaver(corpse or dead body) for medical research or teaching. Don't get yourself confused, this is not a normal criminal murder. The purpose here is to get hands on cadavers for dissection, opportunity to learn anatomy and physiology. Earlier cadavers were dug out of graves, which was illegal but fulfilled the supply of Anatomy students.

Anatomy Murder became a well-worn tale when the infamous duo William Bruke and William Hare, the two immigrants from Ulster committed a series of 16 titillating murder in Edinburgh, Scotland over a period of about 10 months in 1828. These two made the whole agenda of Anatomy Murder nasty and dangerous as instead of grave robbing, they started murdering the people alive. This was something untapped. They searched out unwitting and unsuspecting victims and killed them one by one in the minimum span of time. They sold out the entire corpse to Doctor Robert Knox as dissection material for his well-attended anatomy lectures. They were so notorious there are various books written on them.

Up and close and down the stair, up and down with Bruke and Hare.

Bruke’s the butcher, Hare’s the thief, Knox the man who buys the beef.

It all started from these two, the Bruke and hare murders or west port murders led to the anatomy murders. The current situation is such that the prosecution cases of anatomy murders are difficult due to lack of catching evidence. It has been a long time since the society is trying to eradicate this practice by providing cadavers from some other legal sources for research and studies. But the main detergent against anatomy murder is forensic science which let the graves rest in peace and prevent innocent people from getting dissected.
